Tidying up (Pads and Synths)

Post by dguitarwilson »

I've been collecting quite a few instruments, over two hundred in fact, and have noticed that even though the sample sets are listed alphabetically, the instruments in my User category just get added to the bottom of the list as they are created. If they could be in alphabetical order, it would be much easier to find that specific instrument I'm looking for. As it is, I have to scroll through them all, especially if I pass it by. It's not a big deal, just a thought. Also, it would be great to be able to arrange them in categories, even sub-categories under the "User" category. That would at least narrow the search.

I really enjoy TJ and appreciate all the updates. Your enthusiasm for this app is obvious.

Thanks.

Yeah, it is probably a good idea to let you specify categories for instrument presets from the interface. I'll also put the other in alphabetical too.....

Some of those are really nice. Could you disclose where you sourced those? You can do it privately to me if you'd like.

I notice that some of those are really large, mostly due to almost 30 second long samples. And probably a few too many than are often worth it. If I were to release some of these in the app, I would try to loop those pads and shorten the sample at least in half, and probably omit some samples too, to make the sizes more manageable.

No problem. Most of them are from an old Roland GR-30. It gives me the flexibilty of blending the voices. I also use a JV-880, a Yamaha TZ-77, and my wife's Korg TR. They are all synth voices, except for my Epiphone, that's live. So there's no expression from the artist, as in your cello or violin(most excellent). The sample lengths are long cause it was easier for me to just get a long sample than to loop each one at the right in and out spots. I've run into some clicky sounds on my first attempts at that, which put me off fine tuning them - just lazy I guess, but I didn't realize I'd be posting any of them. As for the number of samples, yeah, I probably added the extreme low and high ends unnecessarily. And I thought I read that you sampled thirds or fourths in the scale for some instruments. I didn't know what TJ would need to get a true reproduction. But I'm having fun with it.

Once all the options for MIDI

Post by dguitarwilson »

Once all the options for MIDI implementation arrive some of us may not need so many onboard voices. But I think it's always nice to have the tools available away from the home studio. With that in mind, I'm posting some more samples. Pads dominate this offering, but I think variety of texture is a great thing.
