2/3ds of a tone 8 steps equally tempered scale

Post by tetraedro »

Very glad to have TJ. It's a nice piece of sound.
But I do'nt find the way to download new scales, or to build custom ones.
An example : I'm looking for an equally tempered 2/3ds of a tone, 8 steps per octave, one.
How can I obtain it and implement ?
Thank you, Tetraedro

You can upload new scales in

You can upload new scales in the Scala format using the Wifi Transfer feature. Go to Prefs->Wifi Transfer, and enable the server. Then use a web browser on your computer and go the URL specified on the page. You'll see the upload scales form at the bottom on the left.

See http://www.huygens-fokker.org/scala/scl_format.html for the Scala file format. But I've included below the contents of the file you want to upload for your scale.
[NOTE: I had this wrong before and forgot the 3rd line that specifies the number of notes in the scale]:

! twothird.scl
tetraedro 2/3 tone special
9

133.333333
266.666666
400.0
533.333333
666.666667
800.0
933.333333
1066.666667

Ideally (and in the future) you would be able to create your own custom scales in the app by simply selecting the notes you want. However, currently you need to create your own in your computer and upload them into the app. To create a scala version of the scale you want (I am assuming you want a G# to replace the usual G in the below example, if you wanted to add it, then just insert a 700.0 between the 500.0 and 800.0, and change the 3rd line from 7 to 8):

! majorsharp5.scl
Major sharp five
7
!
200.0
400.0
500.0
800.0
900.0
1100.0

Hi Jesse, thanks for the rapid support. Just one thing :
An equally tempered, eight steps 2/3ds of a tone scale, in my way means an octave, devided per two (tritone) devided per two (minor third) devided per two (two thirds of a tone step).
Finally, should it be an 150 cents interval ? I think yes. Consequently, the following result would be :
1, 150, 300, 450, 600, 750, 900, 1050,2/1. Am I wrong ?

I wasn't clear about what you wanted, it sounds like you know better than I do! If your scala file sounds like what you wanted, then it is probably right.... can you post the contents of the one you used here?

Sure, just copy the below

Sure, just copy the below text below (starting with the "! tetraedro23.scl" line) into a new file on your computer called tetraedro23.scl.
Then in ThumbJam, go to Prefs->Wifi Transfer and enable the server. Point your web browser to the address shown there, and look at the bottom of the left column for the button to choose a scale file to upload, select your file, then hit the upload button. The scale will now show up in the User category in the scale list in TJ.

! tetraedro23.scl
Tetraedro 2/3 scale

150.0
300.0
450.0
600.0
750.0
900.0
1050.0

I don't know what format that file you uploaded is. This should be a plain ASCII text file that you create with the contents I posted above. I adjusted the allowed file extensions so you can attach it as an .scl file now.
