I abandoned my local wifi setup a couple years back and would rather not go down that route again. I know on newer iPads, you can use the camera connection kit. Question would that same kit work for transferring the midi data on an older, no-camera iPad?

I figure it was worth a long shot.

Yes, you can use a camera connection kit to attach a USB midi interface (or controller) even on original iPads! It should work just fine.
