How about Soundfont compatibility?

Post by yrag »

Hi Jessie:
I was just wondering, how about Soundfont compatibility?

If you (could) open ThumbJam to the existing soundfont file format, it would seem to me, the sky's the limit!

Doable?

Absolutely, Jesse

I just started playing around with coo2, which isn't nearly as sophisticated as thumbjam, but it can use sound fonts in sf2 format. That means hundreds on real good quality sounds available instantly, including partially looped samples, which are so hard to do right in thumb jam at the moment . You should definitely consider sf2 import, and then you won't have to worry about the sounds anymore.

even if not in soundfont, i'd be happy for thumbjam to support any of the formats that these utilities can convert to:

http://www.extranslator.com/
http://www.samplerobot.com/funktionalitaet.htm
http://www.cdxtract.com/samplit.php

of note: extranslator (ESC) is keen on supporting every format under the sun (they've added XRNI aka renoise instruments) so it's not out of the question for them to support the thumbjam format ... if it's published?
