OP-1 collaberation?

Post by starpause »

Greetz Thumb Jammerz =)

I have an OP-1 synth and have made a poor thumb jam patch with it (no looping, etc) ... would anyone be interested in collaborating on making some better patches? I can sample, you patch it up, we release together?

Hope to hear some word. Big love from San Francisco!

Sure, feel free to upload

Sure, feel free to upload your samples in a zip file to this forum and I'll take a listen and let you know if more samples are needed. I'll try my hand at creating a decent instrument from it.

wow jesse, such an honor to hear from you! this is what i've got so far from my favorite engine in the little synth (digital). the first is the default/factory sound which is nice, the second is one that i used in a recent track and still like. each file is several octaves (low to high) of C, F# ... held for a few seconds each time in hope of there being a nice enough loop point in there.

all ears on any tips or if you can point at a thread with best practices for sampling thumb jam instruments. it might make sense to do more samples of the notes in a smaller octave range 'cause there's typically a sweet spot for the sound of a synth patch.

also let me know when you nab the file so i can nuke it off my server.

thanks and looking forward!

Thanks, I've got the file.

Thanks, I've got the file. There are a few glitches in the audio, but all easily corrected in processing. digital 2 is recorded at a very low level, but I'm guessing there aren't many bits of resolution in that sound to begin with. I think doing two notes per octave is probably OK with this instrument.

cool on all accounts. both

cool on all accounts. both are recorded to the units internal album feature which should get the sound without any line noise. however, the operating system is still in beta which is where the glitches came from, corrected in the latest version. i'll watch the volume and be sure i'm close to the top on future takes.

let me know if you need more samples or if you have ideas on velocity/multisampling layers for making a more expressive instrument.

Well, as TJ doesn't yet

Well, as TJ doesn't yet support velocity layers, they won't help yet. And from what I heard you probably don't need much more multisampling than what you sent me. At the very most, you could do C-E-G# per octave, but don't bother unless what I end up with doesn't work for you.

bump on this thread ^^

also, i found this software that greatly simplifies sampling synthesizers: http://www.cdxtract.com/samplit.php

would it be possible to talk with them to make the thumbjam instrument a valid output type? or could thumbjam support one of their output types? soundfont or xi would be killer!
