Hi Jesse,
I have a 3G 8gb model running 4.0.
Here's an update: I can get the sound to come back if I switch instruments.
[edit: oops! My imagination... switching instruments doesn't restore sound, sorry]

Sound disappears if iPhone sleeps
That's pretty much it. If I'm playing & then just leave the phone and it goes black, when I wake it the sounds are gone. Everything else looks like it still works OK though.
A restart fixes it every time.
